Our Past: A Community Hub

As one of East London’s longest running youth and community arts initiatives, Hoxton Hall has blossomed into a staple of Shoreditch life. Our extensive history spans many of the most precarious as well as illustrious periods in Hackney’s historical development. Our singular involvement in responding to the people’s widely varying needs—from air raid shelter to leisure pursuits—has inaugurated a niche symbiosis between our programmes and community needs. In fact, we have a fun history moment to share with every community member, and our brief story is a great place to start. You can find out about the history and development of Hoxton Hall from the documents below or by visiting our extensive artefacts repository at the East London Theatre Archive. Please go to our timeline page to see the key dates in Hoxton Hall's history.

Our Present: A Performance in Process

Hoxton Hall owes its inception and continued success to you, the participants and the creators of our history. Ours is therefore a heritage in perpetual progress, which we exhibit and build every day through our youth arts activities and professional performances. Our What’s On Archive is a wonderful place to begin exploring many of our key performances, such as Frank’s Closet, Hipnotic, and our annual Youth Arts Showcase.

Our Future: A Phoenix in Motion

Maintaining an atmosphere of creativity, collaboration, and solidarity, requires that we periodically refurbish our facilities and update our equipment. In fact, we are in the midst of an exciting period of expansion, with capital renovation, building preservation, and facility access projects well underway. With your ongoing assistance, we are able to renew our offerings each year, distilling each programme with enhanced interactivity, novel ideas, and most essentially, your incredible talent and participation.

So stay updated on our perennial transformation with our News and Press Releases, but remember to follow us on Twitter, participate in our Tumble Log, and fan us on Facebook, MySpace, or Vimeo—whichever you prefer, so that you’ll stay in touch with all your friends at Hoxton Hall.
