Hoxton Select Blog - Week 6
26 April 2011
We had our Press Preview this past Thursday! Select members of the Press were treated to a 20-25 minute segment of the Trial of the Mariner! Roberto Sanchez, the Artistic Director opened up the evening with a secretive but stirring speech about how what we were about to see was a taste, a whiff, a trace of something well on the way...
Well oh well I might be biased but I have to throw my hands in the air and say it took my silly, little breath away! It was brilliantly captivating! I almost teared up; and I rock a reproductive organ that protrudes! Things were happening at breakneck speed. It was as polished as anything I’ve seen in recent memory. (War Horse & the Red Shoes are in that mix). It was epic and immersive in equal measure. It was presented in a promenade format and really if you blinked you might just be walked into or barged past and your complimentary glass of red would fly to the floor.
The performance comprised of the whole cast and there was also room for audience participation. Some lucky buggers who were picked at random got to contribute to the roaring sound of the sea as the Mariner’s ship faced up to a storm.
As I’m sure you’ve gleaned, I’m not revealing any details about what was seen, just tantalising tidbits. I’m not a reviewer. I don’t believe in dissecting works of genius. I’m a writer. I seek to create them too; and I penned yet another short story inspired by this great season.
2 and ½ weeks to go till the season starts... Prepare to set sail... If you aren’t careful you might just miss the ride. And then all you'll have to rely on other people's accounts of how brilliant it was! Book your tickets now!!!
