Hoxton Select Blog - Week 2

14 March 2011

This week we met some members of the Lotos Collective in the building next door to Hoxton Hall.

We talked at length with them about our involvement in the Hoxton Select panel and what we hoped to get out of it. In return, they shared who they are and the journey they’ve taken to get here. We were shown the group’s Design Bible. It was packed with all sorts of clippings, illustrations and writings on nautical creatures— creatures of great myth, acclaim and terrifying auras— provocative photographs and period scuba diving ware. The one that made the most mark on me involved an albatross. It seized living after ingesting little bits of plastic.

We also heard about the inspiration for the play and how the group relies on collaboration to shape the flow of the narrative. After this and many other dotted but highly informative exchanges, we were partnered up with the members of the group whose roles aligned with our career aspirations. The areas represented were Design, Producing and Community Outreach. In our little groups we talked about those fields and the kind of work we can expect to dirty our hands.

We left the session feeling a great sense of direction and know-how. Next week, the 17th of March, we’re collectively working on the window display at Hoxton Hall. So it should be ready for your eyes to dilate as a result of the very next day!

Hint: we are using plastic. Recycled plastic. Think Art Attack, but for the (slightly) grown-ups!

See you next week...
