13 May | 19:30 DOORS

Hoxton Hall hosts Edinburgh previews, bringing work-in-progress shows from a series of comedians trailing new shows in preparation for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2017.

First up we have Matt Forde followed by Jack Barry!

Matt is one of the country’s most in-demand satirists appearing on Have I Got News For You (BBC One), Rory Bremner’s Coalition Report (BBC Two), 8 out of 10 Cats (Channel 4), Question Time (BBC One), This Week (BBC One) and Russell Howard’s Good News (BBC Three). He also starred alongside Jon Richardson in Channel 4’s Jon Richardson Grows Up.

2015 saw Matt take his sell-out, critically-acclaimed 2014 Edinburgh Festival Fringe 24-Hour Political Party People for a week-long run at the Soho Theatre as well as tour it nationwide.

Matt’s monthly residency in London, The Political Party, sells-out Westminster’s St James’ Theatre. Alongside Matt’s trademark topical current affairs stand-up, the show brings Parliament to life as he interviews some of politics’ most notorious figures, including Alastair Campbell, Nigel Farage, Michael Portillo, Dame Tessa Jowell, John Prescott, Alan Johnson, David Davis, Stella Creasy, Jack Straw and George Galloway. The show is also released as a podcast which has amassed over 100,000 downloads on Soundcloud, hit the top spot of the iTunes comedy chart, was picked as the Daily Telegraph’s podcast of the week, and was nominated for the Internet Award in the 2015 Chortle Awards. He subsequently launched a spin-off show The Sports Party which interviews sporting figures alongside celebrity fans and is broadcast on talkSPORT.  Previous guests have included Jimmy Bullard, Eric Hall, Dave Bassett, Jon Richardson and Romesh Ranganathan.

As a writer Matt has worked regularly on 8 out of 10 Cats (C4), Russell Howard’s Good News (BBC3), The Last Leg (C4) and Stand Up for the Week (C4).

Matt can be heard on the radio on The Now Show, The News Quiz (both BBC Radio 4) and on his own weekly show on talkSPORT. Matt regularly reviews the newspapers for Sky News and has contributed to features on ITV’s evening news.

Jack is probably the only stand up on the circuit with a degree in Chinese. What a waste. After excitedly stumbling his way around the stand up and sketch circuits, performing at nights for CKP, Knock 2 Bag, The Invisible Dot and the BBC Comedy Tent in Edinburgh, Jack then went on to support James Acaster on the UK tours of Edinburgh Award-nominated shows Prompt and Lawnmower.

In 2014 Jack performed in the prestigious Comedy Zone as well as performing on the Free Fringe as one half of sketch duo Twins. Jack had previously performed as part of the Pleasance Comedy Reserve and in double-header Your New Mild Friends. Jack first appeared at the Festival as part of critically acclaimed student sketch group Leeds Tealights named Best Student Sketch Group in 2010.

Don’t miss the chance to see Jack try out new material for his next Edinburgh Fringe show.

“An inventive flourish behind his likeable banter… a distinctive wit that should make him one to watch” – Steve Bennett, Chortle
