12 May | 19:30 DOORS

Hoxton Hall hosts Edinburgh previews, bringing work-in-progress shows from a series of comedians trailing new shows in preparation for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2017.

First up we have Matt Richardson followed by Matt Winning!

Matt is a multi-award winning stand-up comedian and one of the most exciting names on the circuit currently rising through the ranks. Having started stand-up in 2009 at 18 years old, Matt became one of the youngest comedians on the circuit and soon made it through to the finals of two national stand-up competitions – the prestigious So You Think You’re Funny and the Chortle Student Comedy Award – as well as coming runner up in the Reading Comedy Festival New Act of the Year and winning the Newbury and Bath Comedy Festival new act competitions – all while still in his teens. He quickly established himself in all of the major comedy club chains in the UK and has gigged overseas on countless occasions.

Since then Matt has firmly established himself as one of the UK’s most exciting young performers and presenters – hosting the drive-time show on Virgin Radio. His TV credits include co-hosting the Xtra Factor alongside Caroline Flack, Co-Hosting Celebrity Haunted Hotel Live! alongside Christine Lampard and steering the live spin off show alone, two one-off documentaries for ITV2 – Pampered Pooches, Hollywood and Meet The Family Guys, a series regular role on Viral Tap (ITV2), Nevermind The Buzzcocks, Celebrity Juice, Sweat The Small Stuff, Big Brothers Bit on the Side, Fake Reaction, Its Not Me It’s You, I’m a Celebrity Get Me out of here Now! and countless other shows.

In 2013 Matt headed out on his first ever award-winning tour ‘Hometown Hero’ in 2013. Don’t miss the chance to see Matt try out new material for his next Edinburgh Fringe show!

“High wattage charisma from a talented young comic who’s star is on the rise” – The Guardian

“Hilarious and Charming” – The Mirror

“Sharp, Funny and Warm” – Heat Magazine

Winner of the Hilarity Bites New Act of the Year 2011, Matt Winning is one of the most exciting, unique and imaginative new stand-up and character comedians in the UK.

The Scottish comic’s eccentric and idiosyncratic act is a whirlwind of ideas, combining an original approach to one-liners, acute observations and shouting loudly. Matt was a finalist in the BBC New Comedy Awards 2012. He was also finalist in the Chortle Student Comedy Awards in 2010 as himself and again in 2011 as the character Steph E Graph.

Matt is a co-creator of the Bearpit Podcast Podcast which is a “Cultish” ( The Independent) character-improv show with a monthly residency at the Invisible Dot in London. He has appeared on BBC3 Comedy Marathon, Hardeep at the Stand (BBC Scotland) and regularly performs on live shows for The Stand, CKP, Hilarity Bites and Avalon’s Comedy Network as well as performing sketches and characters at cult evening The Stockholm Syndrome in Glasgow.

He is also one-third of faux-rap group Vocal Point with So You Think You’re Funny winner James Kirk and Chortle Student finalist Richard Gadd. Matt has also written sketches for BBC Radio Scotland and The Comedy Unit.
