The Jazz Verse Jukebox returns to Hoxton Hall on Friday 30 November 2018 with an eclectic line-up featuring new and favourite guests. Continuing the age-old tradition of intertwining jazz improvisation and spoken word, The Jazz Verse Jukebox is a thrilling night of diverse spoken word and improvisational jazz from some of the freshest exponents on the scene. Plus, a unique Jukebox Open Mic presents the chance for audience members to perform poetry or sing with the band. Hosted by & with music from Jumoké Fashola.

Lisa Luxx is a writer, performer, essayist and activist of British Syrian heritage. She writes to inquire; to cast spells; to offer medicine for a world in urgency. Winner of the 2018 Outspoken Prize for Performance Poetry, she was also shortlisted for Peace Poetry Prize and Saboteur Awards Best Spoken Word Performer. She’s a regular feature at major literary and arts events across the UK including performances at Royal Albert Hall, Latitude Festival and for UN Women’s #HeForShe campaign. She’s also a current nominee for the Arts Foundation Fellowship in Poetry. Luxx’s work is broadcast on BBC Radio 4, VICE TV, TEDx, ITV and she’s heralded as one of the UK’s top four queer poets by Diva magazine. Her poetry and essays have been published in magazines, anthologies and newspapers internationally, by the likes of: i-D, Tate Britain, The ICA, New River Press, The International Times, Dazed & Confused, Tribe de Mama (US), The Numinous (US), Verve Poetry Press, Wasafiri, and Sage Press (India).

Jake Wild Hall
Jake Wild Hall is one half of Bad Betty Press, the host of Boomerang Club— one of London’s warmest and most well-loved poetry nights, and the winner of PBH’s 2016 Spirit Of The Free Fringe award. His debut pamphlet Solomon’s World was longlisted for Best Pamphlet in the 2018 Saboteur Awards. He has performed at the Royal Albert Hall and opened for Daley and Afrikan Boy at the Lyric. His work has appeared in Say Owt Anthology Vol 2 (Say Owt, 2018), London Spoken Word Anthology (GUG Press, 2016) and online magazine I am not a silent poet.

Bex Gordon is a captivating spoken word poet with a unique voice. Her poetry themes include being a carer for a severely disabled sibling, being bisexual, and dissecting the patriarchy. Prepare to be moved by her words! Bex has performed across the country, including at the Roundhouse, at Shambala Festival, where she won the poetry slam, and in the UK slam finals at the Royal Albert Hall and in Barcelona.

Bird Radio is a singer and multi-instrumentalist described as ‘folk-horror of the darkest hue’ (fRoots Magazine) and a ‘flute-toting, bass drum-beating sensation’ (Evening Standard). His music explores songs and stories about dreams, memory and the imagination accompanied by live looping, flute, guitar and more. Bird Radio’s upcoming album, CROW is based on the Ted Hughes’ 1970 masterpiece on grief, Crow: From The Life And Songs Of The Crow, and is created in collaboration with electronic duo Pig7.
Tracy J Campbell
Tracey Jane Campbell is a professional vocalist, international recording artist and writer who having been in the music industry for over 15 years has appeared on many prestigious platforms across the world from opening the World Expo in China with Secret Garden to performing for two Successive Popes at the Vatican and in the UK. Miss Campbell’s voice appears on recordings for various artists worldwide, her rich diverse tones can also be heard on TV soundtracks. As one of the original lead vocalists on the world-renowned track ‘You Raise Me Up’ by Secret Garden, she has toured extensively in Europe and Asia and is a featured artist alongside the legendary singers Barbara Streisand and Elaine Page on their platinum-selling album ‘Inside I’m Singing’ recently performing at the ‘Live in Kilden 20th Anniversary’ recording which was released by Universal Records. Classical music is one of her first loves and she has had the pleasure of being a guest of orchestras around the world. More recently Tracey-Jane has performed as a guest artist with the Animato Ensemble Orchestra(Switzerland) with whom she recorded one of her original songs set to be released with her upcoming album set for release in 2019. She is no stranger to stages and congregations across Europe and collaborates with artists across the genres of pop, dance, Jazz fusion, Gospel, Soul and Classical. More recently Tracey-Jane appeared as a soloist with the Kingdom Choir at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
