Ferodo Bridges, Hoxton Hall, Hoxton Trust and Howl at the Moon present

Persephone

by Gianna Kiehl

May 20 – June 12 2021 (THUR-SAT)  @ 20.30

PERFORMED OUTSIDE IN HOXTON TRUST COMMUNITY GARDEN (COVID19 Compliant)

Professor Charlotte Hawthorne’s students would lie, cheat and steal for her. And her brightest student, Masha Murray has done all three. When Masha arrives at her reclusive professor’s estate expecting to find the Professor waiting, she instead finds the house guarded by a most peculiar Gardener. In each other the two women find potential to face either their greatest fear, or their own salvation, if they are brave enough.

Performed at dusk in the Hoxton Trust Community Gardens, this new 1-act play – written during lockdown – explores the impact of grief and the price of believing in something unbelievable. Writer Gianna Kiehl wrote this story during self-isolation in London and Prague in order to investigate the surprising, frightening and sometimes imperceptible marks left by loneliness and loss. Feeling frustrated by the lack of stories about female relationships, Gianna wanted to explore what happens when women interrogate and challenge each other. The title Persephone alludes to the Greek myth of Goddess Demeter’s daughter whose capture by the dark lord of the Underworld, Hades, throws Demeter into despair and results in the invention of winter. The myth tells of Persephone’s return and thus the return of the Spring: pain is turned into something beautiful.

**Please note this performance contains scenes of suicide which some viewers might find distressing**

Persephone – Audience Information

We are really excited to be doing this production in the lovely location of The Hoxton Community Trust Garden. As it is an outdoor show and we want to ensure that everyone coming has a wonderful evening, please take a few moments to read the following information…

We recommend arriving half an hour before the show starts and you can buy drinks in the garden served by the Howl At The Moon pub. Anyone arriving after a performance has started may unfortunately be refused entry.

You must show the email confirming your ticket purchase on arrival, either printed out or on your phone. All tickets must be purchased online.

Patrons are not permitted to bring their own alcohol, but again are welcome to buy drinks served in the garden.

We recommend bringing a picnic blanket with you for if you have to sit directly on the grass. There are benches and tables but these are available on a first come first served basis.

We also recommend having warm coats or jackets with you, as even the sunniest day will get colder once the sun has set. Umbrellas should also be considered as the show will not be cancelled if it is just raining lightly.

We will not cancel a performance before the advertised start time. If it is raining too heavily to start or continue a performance, we may wait 30 minutes in case the weather improves. You will be surprised how often it can rain all day and then suddenly clear just in time for the action to start.

Please be consider of the space and others whilst in the garden. Put any litter in the bins provided and please be aware that we reserve the right to refuse entry or ask any persons to leave if being disruptive.

Toilets are located just outside the garden, opposite the pub. However, please note that you will need a 20 pence coin to use them.

All tickets are non-refundable but may be exchanged if tickets are still available for another evening.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. Again, we hope you have a fantastic evening!
