Are YOU a descendant of The Windrush? Or, do you know anyone who is?
Do you live in Hackney?
Do you have a Windrush story to tell?
If so, we’d love to hear from you!
As a part of the Hackney Windrush Festival 2021, Hoxton Hall Youth Arts participants have devised a project celebrating the history of our local community and the skills and talents brought to the local area and this country by the Windrush Generation and their descendants.
We would love to meet local people who are related to the Windrush generation, and talk to individuals or groups who feel comfortable telling us their stories. The project is led and coordinated by a small group of young people who are participants on Hoxton Hall’s Youth Arts programme.
For this project, our young people are working with the award-winning photographer Brunel Johnson – a candid street and commercial sports, lifestyle, and documentary photographer who hails from North West London. Brunel draws inspiration from every and anywhere, capturing seemingly mundane moments and heightening its depth by increasing the intensity of the moment captured. Buses, shop windows, London underground, playgrounds, orphanages, landscapes and the streets are Brunel’s canvas.
The stories we collect from this project will culminate in a small exhibition to be displayed at Hoxton Hall in late July.
