26-year-old East Londoner Cherie (aka JONES) has a Valentine’s gift for her fans today, in the form of a lovely lyric video to accompany her cover of Royce Wood Junior‘s exceptional pop jam ‘Valentine Virus‘. Listen to JONES’ rendition and sing along here.
She has also announced the release of a beautiful new acoustic EP, due out this Friday on 37 Adventures, featuring delicate recordings of previous singles such as ‘Hoops’, ‘Melt’ and ‘Indulge’, which have already amassed over 13 million streams. It also includes two covers ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ (Calvin Harris) and ‘Valentine Virus’, as well as two brand new tracks; ‘Becoming’ and future single ‘Whole’.
We are pleased to announce that Geowulf will perform support.
Originally from Noosa, on the Sunshine Coast of Australia, Geowulf are Star and Toma who met in their teens. Despite both her parents being musicians, Star only found her voice 3 years ago and enlisted the help of Toma to bring the early demos to life. Their sweet sounds is reminiscent of Beach House, Mazzy Star and Lana Del Rey, challenging hazy dream pop.
JONES has also recently collaborated on Shy Luv’s disco-inflected single ‘Shock Horror’ – listen here.
‘New Skin’ is out now on 37 Adventures and came together thanks to her work with some of the finest studio talents; Lana Del Rey collaborator Justin Parker, Savages producer and the xx mixer Rodaidh McDonald, Sam Smith co-writer Tourist, Two Inch Punch, XO, Oceaan and HONNE. Working with these disparate talents got JONES exploring new ground, but also hardened her vision of what her songs should really be: moments to lift people out of their lives, however difficult. “What I want to put across is that it’s OK to be where you are, wherever you are, to learn from this. We all need the sad songs sometimes, but it’s good to have optimism too, to free your mind of things that make you unhappy” says JONES about her melancholic but optimistic album.
