In a recent conversation with The Stage, esteemed producer Nica Burns warned the theatre industry that continuing cuts to critics and reviewers in arts journalism will have a damaging and lasting effect on the industry as a whole. Burns discusses the large number of reviewers who find themselves unable to publish their work after attending a performance. Their continued dismissal will only lead to shows without reviews, promotion or the expertise of critics that helps theatre-goers make decisions about which shows to visit.

Reviewers are so important for the creation and upkeep of exciting, creative work – they are the industry’s connection to their audience, and the audience member’s way of getting an insight into what they can expect from a performance. Sometimes, it’s all about what someone else thinks, people’s opinions matter, and we would like to celebrate that.

Here at Hoxton Hall we are keen to encourage and support the brimming pool of talented writers, journalists and bloggers who work tirelessly to promote the arts. We, like Burns, are concerned about the disappearance of industry expertise that invites our audiences in through their talents. Which is why we are on the hunt for exceptionally talented writers with existing platforms who are looking for a lovely Victorian Music Hall to partner up with.

We are looking to build on the blog section of our website by working with guest writers with interesting and original observations about the arts industries as well as helping us to share what’s going on at Hoxton Hall. We’d love to hear from writers of a range of disciplines, with a passion for theatre, performance and promoting the arts.
