This is a stripped-back Work In Progress showing of the play Black Sands by Freda Tuor. Black Sands is an African love story throughout time from 1800s Ghana to 1990s Britain.
The play starts in 1800s Ghana, Ashanti Empire and makes its way to 1990s Britain. It’s a story about the resilience of love throughout time and loss/grief. Using the 4 Greek loves as narrative devices: friendship (Philia), romantic (Eros), parental (Stoic) and love of God (Agape).
Synopsis
The audience follows two childhood friends, Kwesi and Ama, whose love as friends grows into a romantic love but this love is abruptly taken away from them before it flourishes. The play displays how their love can be grieved but eventually restored. Much like black sand washed away by waves but over time it builds new shores and finds a new home.
